The catalytic impact of FireCube

FireCube® is a new and exclusive solution to improve combustion by catalysis. It consists in transforming a precursor in gas, inextricably mixed with the combustion air.

SOLUTION

Inside the flame, the catalyst helps facilitating, accelerating and completing the chemical kinetics of the thermal oxydation. Solid and gaseous unburnt are oxydized. Consecutively, metallic oxydes are blended with deposits (the fouling) ; they make them fragile, non-sticky, loose dry, and self-draining. Then, the boiler can be operated with less air in excess, closer to the stoichiometric conditions.

Procédé

FireCube technology consists of specific eco-diffusers, FireCube® machines made up of a range, and catalysts which are organometallic (or metallocene) developed on a manganese base.

All together the actions of FireCube afford to operate
with much more efficiency on the energy, the environmental
and the economic sides, the thermal systems to which it is connected.

Fields of application

    FireCube® technology is implemented on different thermal systems from several Manufacturers. For example :
  • Water tubes or smoke-tubes boilers ; HP, LP steam ; hot water…
  • Thermal fluid process,
  • Fixed or mobile grid boilers,
  • f Direct or indirirect dryers
  • Heaters…

Technical advantages

  • FireCube is designed to be efficient on most of the carbon-based fuels, either renewable or fossils. It is very valuable on difficult liquid fuels such as HFOs, or on solid renewable fuels with growing demand, such as biomass (wood and waste-wood).

Operating facilities

  • Thanks to its large versatility of applications, FireCube® can either act in a preventive manner to help boilers severely challenged when being operated (overload ; aging components ; bad, wet fuels…), or to boost state-of-the art boilers even further than expected by their designers.
A technology applied to various thermal systems

How it works

FireCube technology consists in transforming a precursor which contains manganese oxyde-based compounds (the catalysts), into quantified vapors at nano-scale. To be efficient, the catalytic load must be in quantity and in distribution adapted to the volume and place where combustion stands. To do so, dosing and balancing of the catalyst in the combustion airs (the vector) must be fine-tuned.

FireCube technology is made up of specialized equipements, the « FireCube machines », and the catalysts in the form of organometallic compounds or « metallocenes », based on manganese (Mn).

Performances

With regard to efficiency
Improvement in the range of 3 to 15%, with :
less primary energy used to produce a unit of thermal MW, or
more thermal power delivered per mass unit of primary energy consumed.

With regard to emissions
None or less CO,
Reduction of NOx thanks to the catalytic effect and air in excess adjusted downwards,
Less greenhouse gas emitted per unit or useful energy

With regard to preventive maintenance

  • Clinker forming inhibited on grids, Ash vitrification stopped
  • Soot-blowing and sweeping stopped or eased
  • Corrosion of metal surfaces prevented, including in due point sections

With regard to operating side

Thanks to FireCube, the boiler can better absorb the drastic load changes and is less affected by penalizing energy factors (for ex. biomass dryness).
The preventive maintenance due to the chemical sweeping, increases the availability and durability of the thermal systems using FireCube®.
